Privacy Policy

This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information the Ukawu Scholarship Initiative (USI) collects through this website, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to reflect what actually happens with your data — nothing more, nothing less.

Who we are

The Ukawu Scholarship Initiative (USI) is a community scholarship program administered by the USI Scholarship Committee. Our secretariat is at Amoffia-Ukawu, Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Our website address is https://ukawuscholarship.org. For anything related to your data, contact info@ukawuscholarship.org.

What we collect

Scholarship application form. When you apply, we collect the information the form asks for: your name, date of birth, gender, marital status, contact details, home address, village, educational background (school, WAEC/NECO, JAMB details, admission details), your answers about previous enrollment and scholarships, your career-goals statement, and the five supporting documents you upload (WAEC/NECO result, JAMB result slip, admission letter, passport photograph, and reference letter).

Contact form. When you send us a message, we collect your first name, email address, phone number, and your message.

What we don't collect. This website does not use analytics trackers, advertising cookies, or user accounts. The application form temporarily saves your draft answers on your own device (in your browser's local storage) so you don't lose your work — that draft never leaves your device until you submit.

Why we collect it

  • To assess your eligibility for the scholarship and administer the selection process, including the public raffle draw
  • To contact you about your application
  • To administer the scholarship for selected scholars over the duration of their course
  • To respond to messages sent through the contact form

We ask for your consent through the declaration you sign at the end of the application, and we process your information as needed to run the scholarship program fairly. We aim to follow the principles of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023.

Who can see your information

Your application is delivered by email to the USI Scholarship Committee and is reviewed only by committee members involved in screening and selection. Our website uses an email delivery provider to transmit applications and contact messages; the provider processes the message solely to deliver it. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone outside the scholarship process without your consent — unless the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Application records are kept for the current scholarship cycle. If you are selected, your records are kept for the duration of your scholarship and a reasonable administrative period afterward. If you are not selected, you may reapply in future years; you can also ask us at any time to delete your previous application records.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

  • Show you the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct information that is wrong or outdated
  • Delete your information (where we have no ongoing scholarship obligation that requires keeping it)

Send any of these requests to info@ukawuscholarship.org or by SMS/WhatsApp to +234 808 048 0805. We will respond as quickly as we can.

Security

Your information is transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) when you submit the application or contact form. Uploaded documents travel as email attachments to the committee's inbox and are not stored on this website's servers.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will be announced on the News & Events page.
