The Ukawu Scholarship Initiative (USI) is more than just a financial award — it is a transformational journey for brilliant, determined, and disciplined young minds from Ukawu community in Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State. If you are an academically gifted student from an indigent background, with strong moral character and a commitment to serving your community, this opportunity is for you.
Who Can Apply?
You must meet all of the following criteria
Academic Qualification
- Completed secondary school (SS3) with a minimum of five credits in WAEC or NECO
- Wrote the JAMB (UTME) and achieved the qualifying cut-off score for admission
- Received an official admission letter — provisional or confirmed — into a recognized Nigerian university
Indigene & Background
- A bonafide indigene of Ukawu, Onicha LGA, Ebonyi State
- From an indigent family — limited financial means, with no ability to fund higher education without support
Age & Entry Requirement
- Entering university for the first time
- Never previously enrolled in any higher institution
- Not more than 25 years old at the time of application
Character & Discipline
- Good moral conduct, discipline, and a strong desire to contribute to the community
- Unmarried at the time of application — and throughout the duration of the scholarship
Required Documents
Have these five ready
- WAEC/NECO result
- JAMB result slip
- Admission letter from your university
- Reference letter from a ward councillor or a community leader
- Two passport photographs
You'll upload clear copies during the online application, and attach photocopies to the paper forms afterward.
Selection Process
Fair, merit-based, and village-inclusive
Eligibility Screening
All applications are thoroughly reviewed for authenticity and completeness.
Village-Based Raffle Draw
Qualified candidates enter a publicly conducted raffle draw that ensures geographic balance across Ukawu.
Final Selection
Three (3) scholars are selected each year. Those not selected remain eligible in future years — as long as they have not yet enrolled in school and are still within the age limit.

What eligible scholars receive
Five Hundred Thousand Naira only — every year, for the official duration of your course
One Million Naira only — graduation incentive for First Class graduates in a Bachelor's degree
